City Rat Bike

June 1st, 2009 ken 1 comment

I’m always on the lookout for interesting bikes whenever I get downtown.  Most any bike one sees chained up on the sidewalk is a beater, but a few of them are elegant as well.

Last week in downtown Lancaster, Mary and I saw this really cool bike that instantly reminded me of a rat rod, those grungy street rods that combine rust, function and artistry. The owner (or someone)  sawed out a couple feet of the top tube and shoved a stick in its place! The seat is a section of a log, complete with bark. And you thought regular bike seats hurt!

Other nice touches include weeds woven into the spokes and downturned handlebars. Way cool.
